Watermelon is a great summer fruit. It’s cool and refreshing once it is cut and served. However, it can be a little messy to cut. i Genietti’s Angurello watermelon slicer and server can cut, slice and serve your watermelon in style and save you time and energy.
i Genietti, Italian for “The Geniuses,” is a third generation family company from Tuscany that comes up with creative innovations for everyday tasks. The Angurello is a lightweight stainless steel tool that is part knife and part tongs. The slicer has a gently curved hook, and it is not sharp though it slices neatly. A child could use this tool safely. By squeezing the handle in, the device becomes a set of tongs.
Step one is to first cut the watermelon in half the long way with a knife. Then to use the Angurello, make slices with the hook side down with one motion. At first we had to experiment a little on how deep to slice down and how much pressure to apply. It took us a few tries to get the perfect cut. After you make the slices into the watermelon, flip the tool over and use the tongs to pull out your watermelon slices with the hook facing up.
First launched on The Grommet, a product launch platform that features new grommets (innovative products) every weekday at 10 am EST, the Angurello has been a big hit with 20,000 units sold since late March.
We think this tool is easy to clean and easy to slice watermelon neatly. The nice thing is that the counter stays clean as the juices stay inside the rind. However, sometimes we do like the look of the rind when serving watermelon, and we like that you can hold the rind when eating your watermelon. This is a great device though for the ease and speed in which you can cut a whole watermelon for a hungry party. We also think it is great for dicing watermelon for a fruit salad. We haven’t tried it yet, but you could slice a cake and lift and serve slices of cake with the Angurello. Overall, this is a great tool to have for the summer.
